Amazon Web Services (AWS) is headed to Cologne, Germany, this month for two of the gaming industry’s biggest events, devcom Developer Conference and gamescom, held August 17-19 and August 20-24, respectively, at  Koelnmesse. There, the AWS for Games team will share advancements that are helping developers build, run, and grow their games with enthusiasts and industry professionals from around the world.

AWS will kick off the week’s festivities by co-hosting the Celebrating Women in Games reception and networking event on Monday, August 18, at KölnSKY at 18:00, in conjunction with Amazon Games, EPAM Systems, and Women in Games International (WIGI). Celebrating the 20th anniversary of WIGI, the event will highlight and honor diversity and inclusion accomplishments. AWS named cloud platform leader for games

The recently released 2025 Omdia Market Radar named AWS the leading cloud platform provider for games. The report evaluates major cloud providers serving the games industry, analyzing their capabilities across game development, operations, and emerging technologies. According to analysis done by Omdia, AWS currently leads the cloud services market for the games industry, particularly outside China. Marking top honors for AWS the third year in a row, the report noted key AWS differentiators, including advanced game development tools, proven scalability, and continued innovation, especially in AI.

The improvements provide game studios with more deployment flexibility, optimized performance and cost, with additional data and ingestion options.   • Hydrolix for AWS is now available on AWS Marketplace. Hydrolix for AWS is a turnkey, fully managed software-as-a-service (SaaS) observability solution for game studios, providing real-time and cost-effective visibility into Amazon services. During load testing, Hydrolix for AWS provides immediate visibility into multi-CDN, origin and AWS edge services log data to pinpoint performance bottlenecks and identify root causes and trends from past events.
  • Guidance for Building Perforce Helix Core on AWS now includes sample code as part of the Cloud Game Development Toolkit. It demonstrates how to install and configure Perforce P4 (Helix Core), a popular version management tool for game developers, on AWS. By following this guidance, game developers can implement a Perforce P4 installation on AWS, aligning to best practices and keeping costs low.
  • Guidance for Intelligent Identification of 2D/3D Assets on AWS features an updated architecture for improved cost efficiency and new sample code to help game developers automate asset identification and management using artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities. The solution leverages Amazon Rekognition to automatically analyze and label assets upon upload, teams can save hundreds of developer hours, typically spent on manual asset processing, while providing globally distributed teams with secure, searchable access to their creative assets. These improvements help studios streamline their asset workflows, enhance collaboration, and accelerate time-to-market through more efficient creative pipelines.
