Amazon Web Services (AWS) is taking over the iconic City View at METREON for this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC) Festival of Gaming for exclusive events, demos, and gameplay experiences. As the annual conference celebrates its 40th year in San Francisco, CA, AWS will dive deep into the technologies and trends transforming the future of game development, hosting, and play, propelled by generative and agentic AI.
From March 9-12, the AWS for Games team will showcase how AWS and Amazon support breakthrough gaming experiences that deliver joy to billions of players around the world at City View. Explore live demonstrations showcasing how developers can run games at global scale, grow and engage player communities, and leverage AI throughout every stage of game development. An early look at the newly released Amazon GameLift Servers DDoS Protection will also be available. The new feature helps mitigate and eliminate attacks that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars of downtime for developers during peak play periods.
Celebrating Women in Games
Kick off the week with AWS, Amazon Luna, NVIDIA, and Women in Games International (WIGI) on Monday, March 9 with a celebration recognizing the women driving innovation in gaming from 6:00PM-9:00PM at City View. During the event, Amazon Games Head of Strategic Initiatives & Gen AI Penny Szeto, Unity Technologies VP of Customer Success & Operations Agatha Hood, and NVIDIA Senior Solutions Architect Natasha Anisimova will discuss current trends transforming gaming, with Joanie Kraut, CEO of WIGI, moderating. New player experiences, AI, and the role of diverse perspectives in building next-gen gaming technology will drive the conversation. Space is limited – RSVP here to reserve a spot.
AWS Developer Summit and Session with Rovio
On Tuesday, March 10, AWS is hosting a day-long summit designed for game developers interested in building, running, and growing their games using AWS and the Amazon ecosystem. Seven deep-dive sessions will explore a range of topics, from the future of gameplay innovation to building with AI agents.

Additionally, on Wednesday, March 11 from 11:30am-12:30pm, AWS will be joined by Rovio for the session ‘Angry Birds’ Meets GenAI: Transforming Rovio’s Asset Creation with AWS in the West Hall, Room 2024. Explore how GenAI—powered by Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock—fits into live game production, enabling faster content creation while maintaining art direction and brand consistency.

AWS Game Day at City View on Thursday
The doors will open to all GDC badge holders to experience everything Amazon and AWS have to offer at City View on Thursday, March 12. Students, developers, and anyone curious about AWS technology are welcome to stop by from 12:00pm-5:00pm PDT. Come check out the Agentic Arcade featuring agent-assisted game production, the Luna Lounge social gaming experience, an interactive game streaming demo, and an AI-powered hologram. City View also provides a great opportunity to connect with industry colleagues for a fun afternoon of networking.
